Project Overview

As part of the national effort to modernize Armenia’s irrigation infrastructure, this project involved the engineering assessment and rehabilitation design of the headwater structure of the Armavir Irrigation System Canal. The goal was to ensure improved operational efficiency, durability, and environmental compliance.

Our team was commissioned to develop the technical design and cost estimate documentation for the cleaning, assessment, and rehabilitation of the structure, focusing on long-term sustainability and hydraulic performance.

🛠️ Scope of Work

  • Comprehensive Canal Assessment
Conducted visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) along the entire canal length to assess structural integrity and concrete degradation of canal walls and hydraulic structures.
  • Historic Infrastructure Analysis
Evaluated Soviet-era and pre-Soviet construction segments in the absence of archival documentation, integrating urban planning and environmental compliance norms into the solution design.
  • Hydraulic Efficiency Improvement
Designed engineering interventions aimed at reducing excessive water losses while maintaining the canal’s functional flow capacity.
  • Innovative Materials and Cost Optimization
Integrated modern construction materials and cost-effective structural solutions to enhance the efficiency of:
    • Concrete repairs
    • Structural reinforcements
    • Interior lining systems
  • Mechanical System Upgrades
Repaired or replaced outdated hydrotechnical valves and control mechanisms with modern, durable, and operator-friendly technologies, ensuring long-term maintenance reliability.

📈 Key Achievements

  • Enhanced hydraulic performance and operational reliability of a critical irrigation system
  • Improved environmental sustainability and compliance with current standards
  • Optimized project cost-efficiency through the use of innovative engineering practices
  • Delivered a scalable blueprint for future irrigation infrastructure upgrades across Armenia
