Modernization of the water supply network in Sevqar village
2024 – MODERNIZATION OF THE WATER SUPPLY NETWORK IN SEVQAR VILLAGE, TAVUSH REGION, FUNDED BY “THE H. HOVNANIAN FAMILY FOUNDATION”
The water supply system of the settlement included in this contract—Yotaghbyur–Sevqar—consists of approximately 85 km of steel and polyethylene pipelines, which collect water from several mountain springs and transport it to a 300 m³ capacity main water reservoir located at the highest point of Sevqar village. This system supplies the village with 10–17 liters per second of water, depending on the season. The main drawback of the system is its length and operational complexity.
The "Middle Spring"–Sevqar system is fed by a spring located in the center of the village, which provides a relatively stable output of about 3 liters per second.
As noted above, the village has several main and makeshift reservoirs. Despite this, the village lacks a proper distribution network. From the makeshift distribution points located near the reservoirs, each household has individually routed its own pipeline. In the absence of consumption monitoring, the numerous reservoirs and distribution points complicate rather than facilitate water distribution for the village’s small utility team.
Due to the absence of an irrigation system, the existing water supply is also used for watering household gardens.
The system is operated and maintained locally by the Sevqar community. There are no installed water meters, and no water fees are currently set. All costs associated with providing the water supply service are fully subsidized by the local budget.
Based on the technical site survey and evaluation conducted by the project team, the following steps are proposed to modernize the water supply system and ensure its uninterrupted operation:
